The highly talented and versatile John Magro has emerged as a genuine title contender for this year’s F3 Series following his signing with the Alpine Motor Sports Team run by Dennie Rumble.

A Far North Queenslander, Magro has driven, ridden, and raced just about anything with wheels on it including motor cross bikes and shifter karts.

His circuit racing credentials are equally impressive with stints in Formula Ford, Mini Challenge, Porsche Carrera Cup, and Australian GT, plus of course several seasons in Australian Formula 3 culminating in placing second in the 2013 Championship after an epic battle with Tim Macrow.

‘My transition into GT racing was made easy by my Formula 3 experience‘, Magro says. ‘I jumped into GT in an Audi R8 and after a few laps I felt totally at home because of F3’.

He says the same of his time in the Lamborghini Gallardo in the GT category, and in Carrera Cup. ‘F3 has been proven around the world as the cars to drive. You only have to look at the good guys in Formula 1 who go straight from F3.

F3 teaches you the right way to drive. You learn aero, you learn how to handle the tyres, and you learn set-up and things like the right way to make a pass. F3 is extremely hard to beat, and is also great value for money as a category’.

As for the Alpine Motor Sports Dallara F307 Mercedes Benz that Magro will be driving this year, it’s something of a reunion with the car having previously been owned and campaigned by him.

The big question now is, can Alpine Motor Sports achieve back to back F3 titles with Magro behind the wheel?
