Formula 3 graduate Todd Hazelwood has clinched the 2017 Dunlop Super2 Series winning the final race of the season. Driving a well calculated race, Hazelwood brought the #35 Matt Stone Racing VF Commodore home in second on the road, however Shae Davies received a post-race penalty clashing with another Formula 3 graduate Jack Le Brocq for the lead.

Hazelwood’s only title rival Paul Dumbrell finished 13th after qualifying poorly with mechanical problems.

“I can’t believe it,” said Hazelwood. “That’s the hardest race I’ve done in my whole career, I’ve been racing for a while now. I’m just over the moon.”

Todd Hazelwood is adamant that his time in Australian Formula 3 was vital to his development as a top flight race driver. The 22 year old who hails from Adelaide finished was runner-up in the 2013 Australian Formula 3 National Class driving for R-Tek Motorsport Services before moving to V8s where he was the winner of the 2014 V8 Supercars Mike Kable Young Gun Award and was the winner of the 2016 Supercars Privateers Cup. Todd is now hoping to take the final step into the main Supercars game.

‘Formula 3 is a great stepping stone as it is a proper racing car’, says Hazelwood.

‘Formula 3 gives you the opportunity to develop as a driver. You have to understand the aero, braking, throttle response and what you learn and develop in F3 you can take to any category whether it be Supercars as the top class in Australia, or faster cars in Europe

It was a great move for me to compete in F3, and it was enjoyable, but the main thing is there was no better category to move me forward as a driver’.

Formula 3 category manager Ian Richards said "We are proud to have played a part in the development of Todd's career and congratulate him on his achievement. He is a great talent and has a big future in motorsport."
