AUSTRALIAN FORMULA 3 CHAMPIONSHIP CALENDAR CONFIRMED

The 2020 Australian Formula 3 Championship calendar has been confirmed, the category administration announcing a six-round fixture covering four states and five circuits.

The entire 2020 championship will be conducted at Australian Motor Racing Series (AMRS) events, under the auspices of the Australian Auto Sport Alliance (AASA). Australian Formula 3 Chairman Ian Richards said the AMRS provides a perfect platform for the championship.

“As Australia’s leading ‘wings and slicks’ championship with a history dating back to 1999, we have found the ideal home with the Australian Motor Racing Series and the AASA sanctioning body,” Richards said. “The AMRS and AASA provide high quality administration, excellent race meeting management, and exceptionally good value motor sport for all competitors.”

AMRS Manager Matt Baragwanath said the series will be delighted to again host the F3 Championship in 2020.

“Ian (Richards) and the Australian Formula 3 management team deliver a truly professional championship of highly competitive race cars and drivers that are always awesome to watch – they’re some of the very fastest race cars in the country,” Baragwanath said, “We see our long-term relationship with the Australian Formula 3 Championship as a reflection of the trust they have as a category with AMRS management in that we deliver exceptional race meetings that are not cost prohibitive for entrants.”

The Australian Formula 3 Championship has a rich history, having provided a breeding ground for drivers who have gone on to successful professional careers in national and international motorsport. Graduates since the series’ inception have included Tim Macrow, James Winslow, Michael Caruso and Leanne Tander.

In more recent times, other talented drivers have used the category’s high-grip, high-downforce attributes as a springboard to success. The 2017 champion Calan Williams will line up for this year’s FIA F3 Championship (a support category for Formula 1 Grands Prix), while the 2018 series winner Harri Jones progressed to the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, winning this year’s title.

Richards said the 2020 Championship is already looking extremely competitive, with strong interest from a number of young drivers, and the addition of a least one new team.
