Practice One - what else but rain for the first run of 2010?

THE FORMULA 3 Australian Drivers Championship has begun and, typically, the rain came with it.

After sunny skies during pre-event testing on Wednesday, a rain belt fell across the circuit moments before practice as has been the case on so many occasions during the past few seasons.

And, befitting the rain, it was young Brit Ben Barker who topped first practice ahead of Tom Tweedie and Mitch Evans – who missed testing due to the New South Wales age restrictions that stop any drivers under the age of sixteen racing in the state. Evans, who is still 15, is racing under an exemption granted by the NSW Sports Minister.

Several cars struggled with the wet, Ben Crighton had an innocent off at the final corner whilst Zhang Shan Qi and John Magro both ended up in the sand trap at turn two towards the end of the session, bringing out the red flag.
Practice two will be held this afternoon at 14:40pm.
