Gilmour Breaks Drought With Darwin Pole
Story By: F3 Media Release  Date: 16/6/2012 at 11:32:18 AM
CHRIS GILMOUR last topped a Formula 3 Qualifying session in May, 2004. That’s eight years and one month ago. 62 Rounds. 138 races. Essentially, a very long time.

However that all changed today at Hidden Valley Raceway, as the reigning Australian champion scored his first pole since that Sandown round all that time ago and ended the longest qualifying drought amongst active drivers in series history.

The Washit.com.au driver took the top spot by a commanding three-tenths of a second and became the third pole winner from four events this year.

It was just Gilmour’s third pole position of his career.

Gilmour took pole ahead of John Magro, the R-Tek Motorsport duo of James Winslow and Steel Guiliana locked out the second row.

Jordan Skinner survived a wild ride across the Hidden Valley infield – including hitting a large rut in the outfield that flung his Team BRM Dallara into the air – to finish fifth, one position ahead of Mygale pilot Cam Waters.

Hayden Cooper took the top spot amongst the Forpark Australia National Class entries, edging out rookie Lockie Marshall and R-Tek driver Mike Wayne, who continues to make impressive progress in just his second ever F3 round.

BF Racing’s Ben Gersekowski battled a major misfire in his Cooltemp / Vic’s Timbers Dallara and finished tenth, the team chasing the mysterious issue that has been apparent all weekend.

Race one will be held over 12 Laps this afternoon, at 12:35 local time.
