Magro Takes Two As Gilmour Slips Back
Story By: F3 Media Release  Date: 17/6/2012 at 11:01:44 AM
JOHN MAGRO just got plain sick of finishing second - so he did something about it.

The Queenslander, fresh from finishing second yesterday, erupted into an early lead in this mornings second 12-lap race and then held off a race-long challenge from James Winslow to win his second career F3 race - at the scene of his first, 12 months ago.

Magro has 9 second place finishes to his credit and just one victory prior to today, but changed the balance with his strong drive this morning; giving himself pole position for the City of Darwin Cup in the process.

Winslow was second and an ever-improving Cam Waters third; the third-placed Mygale the first podium for a non Dallara chassis in Australian Formula 3 history.

Steel Guiliana was a competitive fourth and race one winner Chris Gilmour fifth after possibly his worst ever start in Formula 3.

A clutch issue saw the #1 car slow away and drop from first to last on the run to the first corner, before the car came alive and hooked up.

Gilmour smashed the lap record four times in the race and left with a new benchmark at 1m06.00s.

He recovered enough points to put him in a strong position for the feature this afternoon.

Behind Jordan Skinner (sixth), Ben Gersekowski managed to rebound from his misfire issues of yesterday to finish seventh and win the Forpark National Class.

Lockie Marshall was next, spending much of his race in a close battle with class leader Hayden Cooper. Mike Wayne was 10th.

Race 3, the City of Darwin Cup, will be held at 12:05pm this afternoon, local time.
