Sydney’s Jon Collins has put together a last minute deal with R-Tek Motorsport to race in Round 5 of the Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Friday's first practice will be the first time Collins drives the R-Tek Motorsport Dallara F304 he will race this weekend.
Coming off the back of a season in the Victorian Formula Ford Championship in 2011, this weekend will be the first time that Jon will race in 2012, an opportunity that he is very much looking forward to.
“I have been working hard to put together a drive this year, and when the opportunity came up to race at my home track in Formula 3, it’s a chance I just couldn’t knock back,” he says.
Jon will race with R-Tek Motorsport and will have the experienced James Winslow - as well as 2011 Forpark Australia Scholarship winner Steel Guiliana - as a team-mate. As a result, Collins will be in good company to make his entry into the category as easy as possible.
“It will be brilliant to have both James and Steel alongside of me, they both have immense experience in the cars, hence it will be an incredible learning prospect,” the Terrey Hills driver added.
Sydney Motorsport Park is Collins' home town circuit, his local knowledge making the experience adapting to the wings and slicks car this weekend a little easier.
“To be able to make my debut at Sydney Motorsport Park is superb, my own experience at the track will be of great assistance considering my lack of time in the car," he says.
"I am hoping to put in a strong performance, with the key intention to complete this year’s season in Formula 3 and look towards a future in the category."
The Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship will feature as part of Round 5 of the Shannons Nationals Motor Racing Championships at Sydney Motorsport Park (formerly Eastern Creek International Raceway) this weekend, with practice on Friday, qualifying and race 1 on Saturday and the final two races to take place on Sunday.
Sunday's action will be streamed live on the internet via the Shannons Nationals website - www.thenationals.com.au
