2011 RACE FORMAT

The race format of the Formula 3 Australian drivers Championship is modelled on international F3 regulations and was implemented with great success in the 2010 season.

The emphasis is now placed on a main ‘Grand Prix’ style feature event that determines the overall winner of the weekend.

Two short sprint races beforehand guarantee action and throw up plenty of excitement as they help set the grid for the main race where the trophies are on the line.

The Qualifying format is modelled on Formula One’s exciting knock-out system.

Format:

2x30 Minute Practice Sessions

Qualifying – 1 x 15 Minute Session, Top Six cars progress to the “Quick Six” Single Car shootout for pole position.

SPRINT 1 – 15-20 Minute Sprint Race, Based on Qualifying order.

SPRINT 2 – 15-20 Minute Sprint Race, based on
finishing order from Sprint Race 1 on Saturday afternoon.

FEATURE RACE – 30 minutes, grid based on
combined points from both Sprint Races.

2011 POINTS SYSTEM

A slightly revised points structure will be implemented in 2011.

Sprint Race winners will be awarded 12 Points, with points paid to 10th place. (12, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1)

The Feature Race will award 20 points to the winner and will retain the regular Formula 3 point score of the past 10 seasons (20, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1) One Point in each race will be awarded to the driver who sets the fastest lap.

One Point will be awarded to the driver who qualifies on pole.
