After a thrilling championship battle in 2015, they're ready for a 2016 tilt with the guy that beat them on the track in a older model car two years ago. They defend their 2015 National Class title with another promising young talent.

Anthony earned the nickname after his hometown newspaper, the Cooma Express, after a stunning 2014 debut in Australian Formula 3 which saw the south coast driver take race wins and the Bathurst lap record (for a night), in older machinery against more fancied and experienced runners, including his new team, Gilmour.

After a short campaign in European Formula Renault 2.0 in 2015, he's back in 2016 for an outright title at the crown with the well turned out Team Maccas Dallara.

There must be something in the water in Toowoomba, because we've found another one.

15-year-old Cameron Shields becomes the youngest driver to participate in Australian Formula 3 in 2016 following a well worn path of talented drivers from the region to open wheel stardom, and there's no reason why this one doesn't fit the mould. With good results in state and national Formula Ford, Shields steps up to the wings-and-slicks in 2016 in the car that took Luke Spalding to the F3 National Class win.

Wearing the logo of Toowoomba Grammar School as proudly on his race car as he does on his school uniform, Shields is set to shake up the outright class establishment as the season wears on.

One of two of the South Australian foundation teams of Formula 3, R-Tek Motorsport was formed at the end of 2006 by former Australian Formula 2 Champion Ian Richards. Richards, a talented engineer joins Sir Jack Brabham as one of very few drivers to win an Australian Championship in a car of his own design and construction.

In 2016 R-Tek are back with an Outright and National class contender, and will run further cars in selected races.
CAR: Dallara F311 - Mercedes Benz
CLASS: Championship
LIVES: Mackay, QLD
If being described by team owner Ian Richards as "one of the best I've had," putting him in the same breath as Karl Reindler and James Winslow doesn't satsify, you're probably hard to please.

Legge has proven in 2015 that in the new R-Tek Dallara F311 that the car and the driver has speed, hassling championship contenders Ricky Capo and Jon Collins in 2015. With more data, and time in 2016, and a full season tilt, Legge is a real threat for the series.

One thing Roland Legge has is speed and bravery - The iconic 2015 photo at the end of the back straight at Queensland Raceway with Legge in the centre is testament. In 2016 with consistency, the world could be his oyster.

Nathan Kumar was one of the surprising stories of 2015, coming from a background of only drifting experience in competitive motorsport to taking National Class fastest lap points from eventual champion Luke Spalding by the end of the season.

Familiarity is key - in 2016 he stays in the same Dallara/Opel combination, and with all the tracks now under his belt, the improvement should continue in 2016.

The goal for the Sydney driver is simple - Trophies and the National class win.

Trent and Ken Shirvington team up with Team BRM in 2016, bringing the iconic Team BRM back into the national category with the 2014 Championship winning Simon Hodge Mygale M11. Could this be Title Number 8 for the Adelaide outfit?

After a year learning the ropes and circuits of Australian Formula 3 in 2015, Trent Shirvington is back in 2016 with the Mygale M11 piloted previously by Nick Foster and Simon Hodge to complement the M11 that he ran last year.

With technical expertise from Team BRM brought in house, the times are already improving in testing, and there is an expectation that the car will challenge as the season progresses.

An added benefit of the second car will be data - with the team hopeful of running the Number 14 Mygale at selected other rounds.

Two time F3 Champion Tim Macrow is back, and the story is already looking familiar.

In older machinery against well established opposition Macrow took the only maximum pointscore in his only appearance in the Alpine Motor Sports Dallara in 2015 at Phillip Island. With the lower-area F307 Dallara, expect Macrow to be aiming for wins at the circuits with long straights, while looking to consolidate at the twistier circuits where the F311 Dallara should have an edge.

Alpine are aiming for the title in 2016, and with the paitent Macrow who understands the Dallara's limits, could deliver the title with the benefit of Championship winning experience.
